What Do They See?

I'm sitting at the 11-year-old's first Upward cheerleading practice, reading "The Help" on my Nook.  As practice approaches its end, I started to close my reader down when I see the drawing below.  It was composed by our 6-year-old and given to me as a gift...a portrait of her dad and I. As we look forward to celebrating our twentieth wedding anniversary this year, I am thankful that this is how my daughters see us.
P.S. Never mind the big panda staring from behind us.

Kid Art

The four-year-old painted this picture recently during a homeschoolers' class on the Impressionists taught at our local art museum. She created this using watercolors and "stamping" the paint using pieces of styrofoam. She has titled it "Spring"...quite appropriate with the tree...flowers and grass...and the butterflies.

Kid Art

My four-year-old loves to color with markers. It would not unusual for her to print and color various coloring pages from the web throughout the day. Today, I was sorting through a pile of her pictures that had accumulated on the counter. There amongst the pictures of Little Kitty, various Pokemon and Bratz, I found this picture.

I asked her to tell me about the picture. "It's the squares and circles from my pillow!"

Of course it is...can't believe I didn't see it.

Kid Art

The four-year-old created these two treasure last weekend with some markers and a spiral notebook. I just had to share! The first is titled "The Helicopter" and the second is a portrait of the artist with her two older sisters. She made sure that each of her sisters was wearing their favorite colors. Her wardrobe was inspired by the pajamas she was wearing at the time. Both were created on 2/6/10.

Kid Art

The four-year-old created this in November 2009 with marker. I have no idea what it is...haven't asked yet. But I love the big rectangle that she drew along the outside and how purposeful each of her patches of color seem. She didn't just scribble...she chose a home for each hue on the page and patiently filled it in to its predetermined boundaries in her mind. If I ask her about it and get a name or inspiration...I'll be sure to update here.

Kid Art

I love a child's perspective. When my daughter created this piece, she asked me if I knew what it was. I did not. But when she told me that it was the neighbor's pool...it all became so clear.

Created by the nine-year-old in November 2009 using paint.

The four-year-old created this this very morning with markers and crayons. She titled it A LEAF MACHINE FOR FALL. Love it!!

Kid Art

Fall starts officially this week...and one of the perks is apples. Here is some apple art by my three daughters. The first was done by the 11-year-old with paint. The second was created by the 9-year-old with crayons. The last, but not least, was made by the 4-year-old with crayons.

Kid Art

I woke up this morning thinking about this picture that my now 4-year-old drew and colored last spring. I love the shapes...the colors she used...their hats. Just not sure why they are not happy...nor sad...nor mad...just emotionally neutral...which is not her style.

Created Spring 2009 with markers.
